Davy Pröpper is confident Albion can climb the table in the next few weeks and is pleased he will be part of the club’s long-term objective to become an established Premier League club.

The 28-year-old Dutch midfielder has signed a new contract until 2023, with the option for a further year, and having been part of Albion’s Premier League journey since it started in 2017, he knows that every point at this level has to be fought for.

He said, “Since I joined the first two years were great because we stayed in the Premier League, we knew how to fight and get our points.

“The level of the Premier League is really high. I expected it to be hard when I came to the club, and I was aware that you had to fight for every point, but it was probably harder than I thought it would be.

“This season has been a little bit different. I think we control games a little bit more and play better football but we know we still have to fight for our points.”

Pröpper believes last week’s 3-3 draw at West Ham, when Albion twice came from two goals down, could be a turning point in the campaign.

“It’s important we look up rather than down,” he added.

“West Ham was a really good comeback and lifted the players. I hope we can keep going to make sure we get the points we need and I am very confident that we belong in this league and will stay in it.”

Davy Propper looks to play a pass from midfield.

Pröpper joined the club from PSV Eindhoven, having started his career with Vitesse, and says being happy on and off the pitch has helped him maintain a consistent level of performance.

“The style under the head coach this season suits me, it’s better to display my qualities. As a family, we enjoy living here.

“The last two and a half years have gone quickly – my daughter is three and is almost English now! It is nice to see how they find their way in a new city and a new country.

“It’s been great so far and it’s why I am happy to stay.”
