Mikey Harris urges his side on at the Broadfield Stadium on Sunday.

Mikey Harris was pleased that his side kept going against title-chasing Manchester City, who won 4-1 to go level on points with Chelsea at the top of the WSL.

Goals from Lauren Hemp, Mary Fowler, Bunny Shaw and Laura Coombes extended City’s winning run to a record ten games but Geummin Lee did get a goal back against her former club in the closing stages to reward Albion for their efforts.

Harris said, “Credit to the players, they kept going until the end which we saw with the goal but we didn’t make the most of the moments in front of goal and City did with theirs.

Geummin Lee is congratulated by Maisie Symonds after scoring Albion's consolation.

“I thought we finished the game well and there were spells when we were on top and looked like we could create something. We had really positive spells but we weren’t able to sustain them and that’s what we have to improve as a group.”

Harris thought his side looked more like a Brighton team compared with last week’s FA Cup tie against Manchester United, which they lost 4-0.

“I felt we looked more ‘us’ than against Man United last week in terms of the football club’s identity. We had moments with the ball when we were good,” he added. “Without it, we won the ball back in areas where could counter and didn’t quite get the next bit right and those are the fine margins at this level.

"I felt as comfortable as you can against Manchester City up until their first goal but they have the quality to punish you in certain moments. City have got top players all across the pitch and I thought they were excellent. Out of possession they have formidable attributes too.”
