Roberto De Zerbi says he and his players are aware of the significance of Thursday's Europa League last of 16 tie.

The head coach takes his team to the Italian capital to face AS Roma.

Albion reached this stage by winning their qualifying group with four wins in their last four games and they didn’t concede a goal after coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in Marseille in their second fixture. And De Zerbi says they want to keep the 'dream alive' by progressing to the last eight.

“This is a historical game for us, and we have to remember what we did to reach this situation,” he said. “I speak for the club and the fans – for everyone. It is not a show now, it’s a game and we have to get a good result.

“We know we are playing for the fans and the club and to write the new history of Brighton. I have to repeat words I have said in the past – we feel the possibilities for our city, our club and our fans. We play to keep this dream in the Europa League alive.

“I think we are ready. We are in a very tough moment, and we have to push our human values."

De Zerbi has no doubt either that the players are ready for their next European challenge.

“When I speak about my players I can say I haven’t worked with a group like this, they are the closest to my character and I recognise a lot of my characteristics in the players," he added.

"We have a natural connection, We work for the result for sure, but with football that will show our self and our character.”
