Vicky Losada slotted in from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 to Albion.

A slick Albion cruised to a 3-1 win over West Ham to inch closer to the knockout stages of the Continental Tyres League Cup on Wednesday.

Guro Bergsvand bundled in from close range just before half time to give the hosts a deserved lead at Broadfield Stadium.

Summer signing and captain Vicky Losada grabbed her first goal for the club with a well-taken penalty in the 52nd minute and nine minutes later Veatriki Sarri also got off the mark for the season with a spot-kick of her own.

Guro Bergsvand put Albion in front just before the break.

Substitute Hawa Cissoko curled in a late consolation strike but it was Melissa Phillips's team who went three points clear at the top of Group E ahead of their final game against Charlton Athletic in January.

After making seven changes from the side that lost 3-0 to Arsenal in the Women's Super League at the weekend, the hosts came out of the blocks slowly as they struggled to keep hold of the ball.

However, despite the visitors having the lion's share of possession in the opening stages, former Albion stopper Megan Walsh was by far the busier of the two goalkeepers.

Vicky Losada wheels away after doubling her team's advantage.

First, the Republic of Ireland international kept out Losada's lobbed effort and then spread herself well when Sarri was put through on goal by Geummin Lee.

A rapid counter-attack from the home team ended in Bergsvand's powerful drive being brilliantly denied by Walsh, and the 29-year-old then frustrated summer signing Charlie Rule when she pushed away her stinging effort from ten-yards.

Just as it looked like Rehanne Skinner's side would make it to the break unscathed, Norwegian international Bergsvand, who was a rock at the back, scored her second goal of the season as Walsh failed to deal with a dangerous near-post corner.

Vea Sarri made it 3-0 from the penalty spot.

Walsh's impressive return to her old club began to sour as her attempted clearance was charged down by the lively Maisie Symonds, who then won a penalty after being fouled by a backtracking Shannon Cooke.

Losada stepped up and slotted home the subsequent spot-kick seven minutes after the interval and the Champions League winner was instrumental in making it 3-0 when her sumptuous through ball was collected by Tatiana Pinto, who was brought down in the area and this time Sarri scored from the spot.

The east London outfit, who pipped Albion to first spot in their group in last season's competition, reduced the deficit in the 89th minute through Cissoko in one of their rare shots on Nicky Evrard's goal.

Although Albion, who beat Birmingham City 3-0 in their Conti Cup opener, were on the back foot towards the end of the contest, they held on to avenge their 2-0 defeat to the Hammers in the Women's Super League last month.

Albion, who handed Grace McEwen her first-team debut late on, returns to WSL action on Sunday away to Liverpool.
