Alexis Mac Allister played 33 Premier League games this season.

Alexis Mac Allister hopes to end a season which started on a high with a winning goal against Burnley with another memorable occasion tonight.

The Albion midfielder is in the Argentina squad for their ‘Finalissima’ between the South American and European champions against Italy at Wembley.

His form for Albion has secured a regular place in Argentina’s squad this season and Mac Allister is hoping to get another opportunity to impress in the showpiece fixture, having spent the last few days training with the national team in Bilbao, where 15,000 people watched them train at the weekend.

“I hope I can get a few minutes in this match,” he said. “It’s a big match at Wembley against a very strong opponent, so I am looking forward to it.

"It's a new Cup and we know Italy will be strong and fight hard, even though they were knocked out of the World Cup. I hope I can make it onto the pitch."

Mac Allister had his best season yet, helping Albion set several new Premier League records including their highest top-flight finish of ninth. His own contribution was five goals in 33 games including a Goal of the Season contender against Everton.

But after Wednesday night’s game he is looking forward to returning to Argentina to spend some time with his family. “After the Italy game the idea is to have a week’s holiday but I will also go back to Argentina to spend time with friends and family, which is important to me.”
