Solly March was disappointed with the awarding of a penalty to Southampton.

Solly March admits that Monday's home defeat and the nature of Southampton's winning goal was 'hard to take.'

But the midfielder believes Albion can respond quickly, and he is confident wins will come at the Amex soon especially now fans are back.

March was penalised for a second-half foul on Kyle Walker-Peters. First contact seemed to take place outside the box and referee David Coote initially awarded a free kick, but changed his decision after a three-minute VAR check to a penalty which Danny Ings converted to seal a 2-1 win. Albion have only won once at the Amex in 2020 and are without a win in ten at home.

On the penalty, March said, “I watched it five or six times, I don't see where there is contact inside the box. It starts outside and I don't even think there was a foul and then we both slid into the box which can happen when two players are running at pace. There wasn't really a tackle made, we collided outside the box but the penalty was given. It is hard to take.”

Albion had led through Pascal Gross' first-half penalty and had missed three good chances before the goal. After the break Gross and Neal Maupay squandered decent positions.

“It's disappointing,” added March. “We started well and created chances but without ever being at our best we deserved a draw.”

2000 Albion fans watched Premier League football at the Amex for the first time since February and March is confident they will soon watch their side soon win again at home.

“We need a bit of fortune to go our way to get that home win. I'd be worried if we weren't playing well but the performances have been there.

“We could have beaten Liverpool and we've played well in other home games this season. If we can start taking a few more chances the wins will come, we are creating them which is a good thing.

“But it was great to have fans back and they really got behind us. They were loud throughout and it's a shame we couldn't reward them with a win.”
