Albion players will be clocking up the miles again over the next few days with seven on duty for their countries in the latest round of qualifiers for the Women’s European Championships.

Among them is 18-year-old Josie Longhurst, who has been called up by Wales for the first time. Team-mate Kayleigh Green is also included.

It’s a big week for Wales who must win both their home matches in Group C to keep the pressure on leaders Norway, who have a 100% record from five games.

Wales face Faroe Islands on Thursday at Rodney Parade in Newport before Green will come up against Albion team-mate Cecilie Fiskerstrand when they play Norway at the Cardiff City Stadium next Tuesday.

The Republic of Ireland ceded top spot to Germany when they lost 3-0 last month but remain in second place ahead of Friday’s game in Kiev against Ukraine. Their squad includes three Albion players, Megan Connolly, Rianna Jarrett and Denise O’Sullivan and they are looking to qualify for a major tournament for the first time.

Josie Longhurst has been called up for international duty with the Wales senior squad.

If Ireland avoid defeat they will at least ensure a play-off spot and Jarrett is confident they can keep control of their own destiny.

She said, "For us, the biggest thing as a squad is that we put ourselves in a great position. We have had to show a lot of character and there have been different kinds of performances but we haven't been relying on anyone else or other results and going into Friday's game it's in our hands."

The tournament has been postponed for a year until 2022 because of the Covid-19 pandemic and will be staged in England. The Amex will host three games, including one of England’s qualifiers.

Fifteen countries are vying with the hosts to take part and The Netherlands, who boast a 100% record after seven games, have Danique Kerkdijk and Inessa Kaagman in their squad for their home game against Estonia in Groningen on Friday and next Tuesday’s tie with Kosovo in Pristina.

Inessa Kaagman will hope to be involved in Friday night's match against Estonia.

Nora Heroum has joined up with Finland ahead of a crucial game against Scotland in Helsinki in Group E next Tuesday. Finland are four points clear but the Scots have two games in hand.

The nine group winners and the three runners-up with the best record against the sides first, third, fourth and fifth in their sections will join hosts England at the tournament.

The other six runners-up will play off next April for the three remaining places.
