Aileen Whelan scored her first goal of the season against Everton.

Aileen Whelan was happy to help secure Albion’s first Barclays FA Women’s Super League point for three games but admitted it could have been three.

Whelan praised the fight and spirit of her team-mates to claim a 2-2 draw at previously unbeaten Everton on Sunday thanks to her late equaliser.

She said, “I think we deserved our point. We could have come away with three. Towards the end we could have pushed on to win the game, but we’ll take the point.”

The 29-year-old gave some insight into what the team need to work on, and how their fine early season form gives them confidence going into matches.

“We need to improve on the final execution and the final pass a bit more but we’re creating opportunities which is the main thing.

“When you look at the fixtures we’ve had to start the season they have been very difficult. But we know that the performances we have put in against some of those teams have been very good.

“We’re a team that stick together whether we are winning or losing, and we’ll always put in a fight and make it difficult for the opposition to play against us.”

Whelan was delighted to score her first goal of the season to secure Albion's point.

“I just had to throw myself at the ball really! I knew it was coming across the box and I tried to get something on it to make sure it went in the back of the net.”
