Albion are finally getting the recognition they deserve according to Fliss Gibbons, after Hope Powell was named manager of the month and Rebekah Stott won New Zealand’s international player of the year award.

Goalkeeper Megan Walsh was nominated for player of the month after keeping two clean sheets in two games last month.

Gibbons said, “It’s really good for Hope to win the award, but it says a lot about the team and the performances that we have put in and the results we have got.

Hope Wins Manager of the Month

“I doubt many people were expecting us to draw at Manchester City and we had two good games to start the season, but we’re not going to get ahead of ourselves because we know there’s a lot of things we need to improve going forward. We will take Hope’s recognition as a confidence boost and try and build on it.”

The 26-year-old believes the work of Powell and her staff has played a big part in Albion’s improvement this season.

“The coaches are very committed. They do a lot of work behind the scenes that people don’t see and probably wouldn’t know about.

“They really drive us to be the best that we can be and to commit to the targets that we set ourselves at the beginning of the season. They’re always there to help us improve and they have our best interests at heart.”
