Le Tissier believes Albion can get a positive result against Manchester City.

Albion defender Maya Le Tissier has been impressed by Manchester City’s signing Alex Greenwood and Lucy Bronze this week, but believes Albion can get a result in Sunday’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League game at the City Academy Stadium.

The 18-year-old defender is looking forward to facing the star-studded City team, but says the moment she steps over the white line she will be fully focused on trying to take points off last season’s runners-up.

She said, “For me it’s inspiring and really exciting to be up against these players because you can learn from them and add bits to your own game.

“But as soon as you’re on the pitch it’s a different story. You just give it your all, no matter who you’re playing against. I believe in our squad and I think we can get a result.”

Le Tissier was recently praised by fellow defender Victoria Williams, who reckons the Albion academy graduate has a big career ahead of her.

Le Tissier made her first start of the season in the Albion's opening WSL match against Birmingham City.

“I have got a desire to be the best I can be and improve all the time. [Head Coach] Hope Powell tells me to just go and play and I believe I have already got a good understanding of the game,” Le Tissier added.

“I love watching and playing football, I learn from different players and try and soak up the knowledge from the senior players in the squad. Any of their experiences I can use to help me I will.”

Le Tissier has also spoken about her strong relationship with Powell.

She said, “It’s good having someone that trusts you. You know that if you play well then you keep your place in the team. She recognises my strengths. If she wants me to play at right-back or centre-half, I will use my strengths to the best that I can.

Hope Powell was delighted to get off to a winning start against Birmingham City.

“I think it’s important that you can play more than one role. Moving forward, I want to be able to play in as many different positions and do a good job.”
