Thomas Carter was given a three-year banning order and ordered to do 40 hours of unpaid work as part of a 12-month community order. He has already been issued with an indefinite ban by the club.

Chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber said, “We welcome the verdict. Every member of our staff has the right to work in a safe environment without fear of being abused or assaulted.

“We have made it clear on countless occasions that we will impose a zero-tolerance approach to this kind of abhorrent behaviour, and we will impose our own sanctions including a lifetime ban from our stadium and attending any of our matches.”

Meanwhile at today’s Premier League Shareholders’ Meeting, clubs voted unanimously on a united stance against all forms of violent, threatening and abusive behaviour.

A statement issued by the Premier League read, “Following a number of recent events, all 20 clubs committed to introducing a League-wide ban for anyone banned by their club for discriminatory, abusive or violent acts.

“Unacceptable conduct towards players, fans, club employees or referees will not be tolerated by the Premier League or its clubs.”
