The midfielder made his 16th appearance of the season in the 1-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at the Amex in what was his 11th start.

The Colombia international’s hardworking performance caught the eye of Albion’s head coach, who praised his willingness to get on the ball and try to make things happen against the Championship side on a frustrating afternoon for his men.

“For a young player Steven Alzate carried on where he left off against Chelsea and showed great courage to get on the ball and try to make things happen and keep things going for us," said the head coach.

“We are really pleased with how he is progressing. I thought his behaviour again was really, really good.

“In the midst of a not great team performance I thought he did well. He is learning and improving all the time with the more games he plays and that is the most important thing.”
