Aaron Mooy is mobbed after netting his first Albion goal.

The Australian midfielder finished off a fine move during the second half when he latched onto Leandro Trossard’s superb lofted pass to find the bottom corner after Alireza Jahanbakhsh had given Albion an early lead.

Mooy said, “It was a great feeling to get off the mark for the club, we dominated large parts of the game but we needed the second goal to kill the game off.

“We knew we were close to them in the table before the game and that added a bit of significance to it, but we know every game in this league is tough.

“We just have to try and get better in the way we’re playing in every game because if we do we know the points will come.”

Jahanbakhsh and Burn

Jahanbakhsh had given the Seagulls a flying start and Mooy praised the impact his team-mate made so early.

“It would be nice to do that in every game!” joked Mooy. “It was a great start and it gave us a foundation to build on.

“It’s great for Ali too because he hasn’t played much this season and that will do him a lot of good, he produced a great performance today.”

Potter: A great moment for Ali

Graham Potter’s men also kept their first clean sheet since early November, and Mooy paid tribute to the work of every player in a blue and white shirt.

He added: “The clean sheet will give us confidence. Everyone worked hard to make sure we got it, while the fact that we made seven changes shows the strength we have in the squad.

“We all work hard every day and the Head Coach believes in us and his changes worked well today.

“Now we have to recover after a tough couple of days but I’m sure we’ll be ready to go again against Chelsea.”
