Graham Potter’s men take on the Toffees on the south coast looking to bounce back from last weekend’s cruel defeat to Aston Villa, and the Socceroos international emphasised the importance of using the feeling of disappointment  they felt last week to spur the side on today.

He said, “Last weekend is another example of the fact that we don’t feel like we have the points tally that we deserve.

“It just goes to show how tight this league is, as we nearly won the game with ten men last weekend, but there have been positives in abundance from pretty much all of our performances so far this term.

“It’s frustrating that we’ve probably lacked that cutting edge in terms of being able to get the job done. Only we can control that, and we have to keep learning from these experiences to get better and improve.

“As tough as the last minute goals have been, we can’t sit here dwell on that, we have to rise above that disappointment and use it to drive us forward ahead of the game this weekend.”

The Seagulls were impressive 3-0 winners over Tottenham Hotspur last time out in the Premier League at the Amex stadium, and the Australian keeper spoke about striving to create more memories and feelings like the ones that victory gave.

“That game was as good as it gets in many respects really - we beat a top six side at home in the biggest and best league in the world, and they’re the moments you always want as a footballer,” Ryan continued.

“I was able to make a couple of good saves at the end of the game to keep a clean sheet too, and when you look back at the end of the season you remember those moments as a goalkeeper.

“A club like ourselves works hard to get those moments of success, and that day was great for the whole club, we of course want more of those.”
