The Seagulls have been in Austria since Sunday, working under the new head coach and his staff, and the boss believes today’s contest will cap a beneficial time abroad.

He said, "I think you look at it being the first time we can get on the pitch in a proper game environment, and it means you can look at everything from an initial perspective.

"The guys will get 45 minutes, and everybody will get that work, it will be the end of a nice week hopefully, we have tried to develop the group in terms of team spirit and our own work too.

"It will be an accumulation of all that, the first friendly is about having the chance to get going again and trying to put into practice what we’ve been working on this week."

Albion will face Crawley Town, Fulham, Birmingham City and Valencia on home soil after today before the new Premier League campaign gets underway, and Potter previewed the remainder of the pre-season schedule after this afternoon’s match.

"I have no complaints at all with what we have coming up, and you have to adapt anyway, nothing is ever perfect. It's easy to say it should be like this or that,” he continued.

“We'll adapt to what we've got and it's been put together well. We're happy with it and there are no excuses or problems.

“We are looking forward to getting home, of course, once this week's done and we can start working domestically back at the training ground.

“It will also be nice to go back to Birmingham at the end of the month too, because that's where I started off my career, so I'm always very thankful for that opportunity."
