The senior squad have been joined by Viktor Gyokeres, Max Sanders, Aaron Connolly, Steven Alzate, Jan Mlakaar and Robert Sanchez in their pre-season camp, and the boss spoke positively about the group’s involvement.
He said, "Clubs use it as a nice opportunity to get an understanding of what's coming through the academy and the under-23s. There can be some nice surprises in that process and some of the guys have impressed, to be honest.
"It's good to see them amongst the first team group, with the caveat that it's still pre-season, but you can see the quality is there. They've just got to carry on taking the next step, but young players are good and it's a nice feeling for everybody.
“I think the supporters appreciate a young player in the team, we know it's the Premier League and we know the competition is tough, but it doesn't really matter how old they are, it's whether they can help us win the game and be competitive, that's the challenge."

The boss has already welcomed two new faces to the club with the arrivals of Matt Clarke and Leandro Trossard, and he spoke about potential further activity between now and when the transfer window closes next month.
“We have to focus on ourselves, but in any window you are always aware of what's happening and then looking to strengthen if you can with the right people to help the group,” he continued.
"There is a possibility and you have always got to be looking to strengthen, that's what the window is there for.
“From a coaching perspective it is better to have players in sooner because of course then you can work with them for longer. We have to assess the group we have and find the right player and the right person to come into the group if we can.”
