New Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Megan Walsh believes she is at the perfect place to improve her game, and says the impressive set-up ultimately convinced her to make the switch to the south coast.

Walsh signed a one-year deal with the Albion and feels that the move can help take her game to the next level.

She said, “This is a fantastic club and I want to develop even further here. I think I can do that at Brighton, with their facilities and coaching staff.

“They have such incredible support from the men’s side of the club too, which is brilliant.

“I am now really looking forward to working with Alex [Penny] and the other goalkeepers, and I just can’t wait to get going.”

The 24-year-old spoke about her main attributes as a goalkeeper, how she will fit into Albion’s style of play, and how the move to the club materialised.

“I’m a good shot-stopper, organising my defence and telling them where they need to be. They play good football, and clearly have a strategy they stick to, which is to play out from the back.

“I first heard of their interest last year and I knew they wanted me, which is always great for me to hear as a player.

“That was massive and you want to be at a club where the players and staff want you. It boosts your confidence so much.”

The shot-stopper is looking forward to seeing a number of familiar faces following her spells at Aston Villa and Notts County, and the prospect of working under Hope Powell.

“I know a few of the girls already. I was at Notts County with Aileen [Whelan], Fern [Whelan] and Dani [Buet], at Villa with Ini [Umotong], and Kayleigh [Green] at Yeovil. That will definitely help me going into a new team and allow me to settle even more.

“Working with Hope will be brilliant, as she’s a massive name within the women’s game and everyone listens to her because of who she is and her experience. She can improve any player and despite me being a goalkeeper, I’ll learn so much from her.”
