Maisie Symonds hits the bar with her free-kick and Albion levelled from the rebound.

Tatiana Pinto's fifth goal of the season wasn't enough as Albion were beaten 2-1 by Everton at the Amex.

The Portugal midfielder drew Albion level on 63 minutes after Maisie Symonds' free-kick came back off the bar but Everton, who led through substitute Karen Holmgaard, regained the lead in the 72nd minute when Guro Bergsvand scored an own goal.

There was a terrific atmosphere inside the Amex at kick off with cannons of blue smoke greeting the teams.

When it cleared, Everton created the first chance but Sophie Baggaley pushed Sara Holmgaard's powerful effort from 25 yards out for a corner which Holmgaard met with a looping header and Baggaley made a confident save.

Katie Robinson gets in a cross during the first half.

Top scorer Terland was closely marked throughout but went close midway through the first half. Julia Zigiotti’s ball from inside Albion’s half was perfect for the Norwegian to run onto. She lobbed Courtney Brosnan with her right foot but didn’t quite make a good enough connection, although the Everton keeper still had to scramble across goal to push it wide for a corner.

Hanna Bennison was next to test Baggaley with a powerful low shot but the Albion keeper was equal to it and Albion went close again just before the break. Symonds showed her ability on the ball with a great cross which Jorelyn Carabali attacked but headed into the side netting from five yards.

So all square at the break but Albion came out with renewed vigour at the start of the second half. Katie Robinson drifted inside and was fouled and the resultant free kick found Terland on the left-hand side of the box in space, but her volley flew wide of the far post.

Tatiana Pinto battles with Katrhine Kuhl for a ball in the air.

On 54 minutes Pinto burst into space but her shot took a deflection wide and Terland wasn’t far away with an ambitious effort from 40 yards that drifted wide with Brosnan back-pedalling towards goal.

The game needed a goal – and it got two in the space of four minutes to spice things up.

Everton went in front on the hour when substitute Holmgaard met a left-wing cross with a powerful header from Sara Holmgaard's cross at the far post which gave Baggeley no chance.

Tatiana Pinto slams in the equaliser.

Albion were soon level though. Symonds struck a free-kick from 20 yards over the wall and back off the underside of the bar and Pinto reacted quickest to fire the loose ball into the roof of the net.

Albion seemed to be in the ascendancy only to concede a poor goal in the 72nd minute. Jorelyn Carabali’s back-pass was intercepted by Aurora Galli and although she slipped as she fired goalwards Bergsvand ended up putting the ball into her own net trying to clear.

Albion pushed forward in the closing stages. Harris put three strikers on and Robinson’s stinging drive was saved by Brosnan as they sought an equaliser.

Elisabeth Terland bravely charges down Courtney Brosnan's clearance.

It was all Albion in the closing stages. They forced three corners in stoppage time but Everton held firm and Brosnan's handling under pressure was exemplary.
