Julio Enciso returns to the squad for Wednesday night's trip to Brentford.

Albion are back in Premier League action on Wednesday when we head to the Gtech Stadium to take on Brentford, kick off 7.30pm. The game is live on TNT Sports.

Team news

Top scorer Joao Pedro, who has missed the last nine games with injury, is back in the squad and looking to add to his 19 goals in all competitions, eight of which have come in the Premier League. Julio Enciso is also back in the squad but a long injury list still includes Solly March, Billy Gilmour, Kaoru Mitoma and Jack Hinshelwood.

At his pre-match press conference Roberto De Zerbi said, “Joao played an Under-21 friendly on Saturday and is in a good way. I don’t know how much time he can play at Brentford; I haven’t decided. Julio Enciso is also available, we’ll see if one of them can start.”

PL Highlights: Brighton 2 Brentford 1

Player to watch

Ivan Toney has scored four goals since returning to the Brentford attack in January after serving his lengthy gambling ban. Toney netted in both matches against Albion last season when he finished with 21 goals in all competitions.

Ivan Toney scored in both games against Albion for Brentford last season.

The 28-year-old scored his first international goal last week with a penalty in England’s 2-2 draw against Belgium and he looks almost certain to be in the squad for this summer’s Euros after an impressive display in what was only his second full England appearance.

Stats and facts

Brentford have won just one of their five Premier League games against Brighton (D1 L3), though it was a 2-0 win in this exact fixture last season.

Albion have won just three of their last 17 away league games against Brentford (D5 L9), with all three coming via a 1-0 scoreline (December 1995, March 2011 and September 2021).

We are winless in all six of our Premier League away games against London sides this season (D2 L4), failing to score in half of those visits to the capital.

The Bees have lost 10 of their 14 midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) Premier League games (W2 D2), including all four so far this season. At home, they’ve taken just one point from 12 available in such games (D1 L3).

Since the start of last season, Albion have won two of their four Premier League games played on a Wednesday (D1 L1), beating Brentford 2-1 in the reverse fixture this season. The Seagulls had only won one of their first 17 Wednesday games in the competition (D8 L8).

Albion have lost just one of their last seven evening kick-offs (7pm or later) in the Premier League (W2 D4). However, it was in their last such game against Luton (0-4), with the Seagulls failing to score in all three of their evening games so far in 2024 (also 0-0 draws with West Ham and Wolves).

Brentford are winless in their last four Premier League home games (D2 L2), last having a longer run at the Gtech Community Stadium between September and November 2021 (5).

Having been winless in their first 15 Premier League games in April between 2018 and 2022 (D8 L7), Brighton have since won six of their last 11 in the month (D2 L3).

Pascal Gross has provided 11 Premier League assists in games played in London – only Ryan Giggs (29), Steven Gerrard (14) and Emile Heskey (12) have provided more in the capital among players to have never played for a London side in the competition.
