Kevin Sinfield brought his fundraising heroics to Brighton on Wednesday as he ran the sixth of seven marathons in seven days.

The 43-year-old has raised millions for Motor Neurone Disease charities after his close friend and former Leed Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow MBE was diagnosed with the disease in 2019.

Kevin has been running seven marathons in seven days in seven cities across the UK and Ireland, since last Friday. The sixth leg began at the Amex and several hundred wellwishers turned out to support Kevin as he began his journey through the city.

Albion legend Glenn Murray and chief executive Paul Barber are due to run the last mile with Kevin and his team from the Kings Esplanade to Brighton College. Kevin runs his seventh marathon in central London on Thursday to complete his latest remarkable challenge.

Explaining his decision to run a leg in Brighton, he told Paul Hayward on the Official Brighton & Hove Albion podcast, “I’ve been to Brighton twice this year, having never been to Brighton before in my life.

“One was with rugby union where we had two camps [Kevin is a coach with the England team]. The people were very friendly and the second is [podcast host] Paul Hayward, who is from the area and always speaks very passionately about the city.

“The third reason is James Milner. James signed for Brighton and given his affiliation with the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation – and I am a patron of James’s foundation too – there’s a real link and a synergy.

Kevin is running seven marathons in seven days with the Brighton run his sixth.

“So when I was looking at somewhere in the south to run, there were already some foundations here. Brighton over the past ten years has been a really popular place to run marathons. You put all those things together and you realise quickly why we made the decision.”
