Merricks's Man City press conference

Interim head coach Amy Merricks said, “Since the Chelsea game I have stressed to the players that we are here to compete in this league against every other team. It's been a quick turnaround since Wednesday's game but we will be diligent in our preparation and ready to give a committed performance for 90 minutes."

Form Guide

Manchester City stayed third in the table after Khadija Shaw’s hat-trick sealed their 3-1 win over Spurs last Sunday in head coach Gareth Taylor’s 100th game in charge. Jamaica international Shaw has now scored 24 goals this season, equally City’s club record set by Nikita Parris with eight games to go. Since losing their first two games against Aston Villa and Chelsea, City have been unbeaten in 12 games.

Albion’s two wins came on the opening day of the season against Reading at the Amex and in November when Merricks oversaw a 5-4 win over West Ham United. Last time out at the Broadfield Stadium, Albion reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 5-0 victory over Coventry United.

WSL Highlights: Man City 3 Albion 1

Albion have never beaten City in the WSL and have endured some tough afternoons against them at home. Last season City won 6-0 at the Broadfield Stadium when they scored four times in seven minutes after half-time. In the return game last April the hosts won 7-2.

In the 2020/21 campaign City won 7-1 on Sussex soil although Albion had drawn 0-0 at the Academy Stadium earlier in the season, our only point in seven meetings with City. They also won the only game in the Covid-curtailed 2019/20 campaign 5-0, while in our debut season in the WSL we were beaten 6-0 at home and 3-0 away.

Earlier this season in December we lost 3-1 in Manchester, Geum-min Lee getting our consolation goal in the second half.

Stats and facts

Albion have lost seven of their eight WSL meetings with Manchester City (D1), failing to score on five occasions in that run.

We have conceded at least three goals in seven of their eight WSL meetings with Man City, shipping 37 goals in total. The only exception was a 0-0 draw in September 2020.

City's record of 4.6 goals-per-game against Brighton (37 in 8) is the highest any team has against another in WSL history, for those that have met more than five times in the competition.

Albion haven't kept a clean sheet in any of their last nine WSL home games. Despite no side playing fewer home games than them this season (5), Brighton have conceded the most home goals in the WSL this term (20).

City have won their last five WSL away games – only once have they had a longer winning run on the road in a single season (7 between December 2020 and May 2021).

Albion’s Lee Geum-Min has either scored (1) or assisted (1) a goal in each of her two WSL appearances against former club Manchester City.

City's Khadija Shaw has both scored (13) and assisted (4) more goals in 14 WSL games this season than she did in 17 appearances last term (9 goals, 3 assists). Shaw netted her first ever hat-trick in the competition in a 7-2 victory against Brighton last season.

City's Chloe Kelly has been involved in seven goals in eight WSL appearances against Brighton (3 goals, 4 assists) – against no side has she been involved in more.
