Roberto De Zerbi's team lost for the first time in 2023 on Saturday afternoon.

Roberto De Zerbi said he would prefer to lose playing the way his team did against Fulham than to change their style.

The head coach’s team had 21 shots and 65 per cent possession, but were undone by Manor Solomon’s 88th minute strike – the Cottagers’ second and final shot on target of the afternoon as they snatched a 1-0 win.

“We know very well how football can be,” De Zerbi said. “We played very well, we made too many mistakes when we had chances to score. But I am happy for the performance, we could have won.

“We deserved to win, but in football you can shoot 21 times to their five and you can still lose. We know our way and I would prefer to lose this way than to win a few games not playing well.

“In future this type of game will help us to progress.

“We shot a lot of times, we created many chances to score. if we didn’t shoot, if we didn’t create anything there would be a problem. In the second half we were dangerous, but we can do more.”
