Jack Hinshelwood says he is one step closer to his “dream” after being named in a Premier League squad for the first time.

The 17-year-old, who is the son of former Albion defender Adam Hinshelwood, has been with the club since he was seven years old, and was named amongst the substitutes against Arsenal after impressing in training during the World Cup break.

And while he hasn’t quite achieved a childhood goal to play in the top-flight just yet, the midfielder loved his experience against the Gunners and wants to kick on.

“Being named in the squad against Arsenal was an amazing experience.” he said.

Jack Hinshelwood has made nine Premier League 2 appearances so far this campaign.

“I’ve been at the club since I was a kid and it’s obviously close to my family, so to be on the bench in the Premier League at a packed out Amex was incredible.

“When you start your journey in football you never think too far ahead but it has always been a dream to play for the first team and to be so close is special.

“I need to keep working hard. My involvement is spurring me on - the next thing to tick off is my first team debut.”

Unsurprisingly, Jack’s phone was full of messages from family and friends after the team was announced on Saturday and he spoke to his dad, who made his Albion bow in a 3-1 win at Burnley in 2002 aged 18, after full-time.

Adam Hinshelwood came through the Albion academy, making his debut in August 2002.

“My Dad is really proud of me. I’ve spoken to him a lot and of course it would be special to follow in his footsteps and make my debut at a young age, but there is no pressure whatsoever.

“If and when my time comes I will be ready and can’t wait to take my chance. The belief Roberto has in us young players is massive and it gives us so much confidence.

“You can see with how Evan [Ferguson] is playing right now that the manager fills us with belief – he trusts the young players and that’s a massive boost for me and all the boys.”
