German coach agrees contract with Albion.

Similar to the recruitment process for Roberto De Zerbi in the men’s first team, Jens was the number one target for Albion when they began their search for Hope Powell’s successor.

Jens brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the top-flight of the women’s game having previously coached at FC Bayern Munich Frauen and SC Freiburg Frauen in the women’s Bundesliga, but who is the Scheuer and what led him to becoming the new women’s head coach at Albion?

Born in Germany, Jens has been involved in the game from an early age. As a young centre-back, he began his playing career at Offenburger FV before moving to Bahlinger SC and then later to FC Botzingen.

Scheuer excited about head coach role

In 2008, Jens began his coaching career as he transitioned into a player-coach role at FC Boetzingen in the 2008/09 season at the age of 30.

He remained at the club for another two seasons before he returned to Bahlinger SC in 2010 to undertake a full-time coaching role.

Scheuer then had a second spell at FC Boetzingen as coach before he made the transition into the women's game where he signed a contract with SC Freiburg Frauen in the Bundesliga in 2015.

He spent four years with Freiburg and achieved third place in the league in 2017/18 season.

This caught the eye of FC Bayern Munich Frauen who were impressed with the job that he had done and appointed him as head coach in the 2019/20 season.

Jens went on to have a very successful three seasons in Munich before departing in May 2022.

During his time he consistently finished in the top two in each league season and led the squad to the German championship in 2021.

In the same year, he also pushed the team to reach the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final against Chelsea.
