Amy Merricks has described Katie Robinson’s England call-up as ‘amazing news for the club and pathway.’
Merricks was appointed acting manager on Monday after Hope Powell resigned after five years in charge.
A day later Robinson, 20, was named in the Lionesses’ squad for the friendlies against Norway and Japan later this month.
Merricks said, “It’s amazing news for the whole club and pathway and a real credit to her and the staff who have worked with her.
“But mainly it’s down to Katie who has been very committed to her preparation and doing what she has to do to get to where she is.

“That needs to continue. She will really enjoy the opportunity she has with England and I know she will be focused on doing her best.”
Robinson suffered a season-ending knee injury after joining Albion from Bristol City in 2020 but developed during a loan spell with Charlton before becoming a first-team regular this season.
“She’s had to overcome some difficulties including a long-term injury and it shows that if you put the work in, keep your feet on the ground and focus on your development there’s no reason why you can’t achieve what she has,” added Merricks.
“Katie is a role model for the rest of our pathway. We’re really proud of developing individuals who fulfil their potential. We’ve seen that with Katie and Maya Le Tissier and hopefully that will continue.”
