Graham Potter's men sit ninth heading into tonight's Premier League match against Crystal Palace.

Welcome back to the Amex for this evening’s game with Crystal Palace.

Following our trip to West Bromwich Albion in The FA Cup last weekend, our focus returns to the Premier League, where our form over the festive period was really positive.

To take seven points from nine games, against such difficult and varied opposition as Brentford, Chelsea and Everton, is further evidence that the players are continuing to make progress as a group in what is a challenging environment, week in, week out – especially given the difficulties we faced with injuries, isolation and suspensions.

PL Highlights: Albion 2 Brentford 0

Last time out at the Amex, we took a deserved three points against Brentford. There was plenty to like about our play, especially in the first half, and we scored two fantastic goals through Leandro Trossard and Neal Maupay.

That result set us up for difficult trips to Chelsea and Everton, and I was delighted with the performance at Chelsea. We equalised very late on, but I think that was a reward for a courageous performance where we tried to be ourselves in a very tough environment.

The intensity of the fixture list also tested the squad again with a long trip up to Everton.

We made a great start with early goals in the game, and a stunner from Alexis Mac Allister in the second half. Twice Everton got themselves back into the game, but I think it shows much about the growing maturity of our team that they were able to see the game out.

Given the number of minutes played by some of our players of late, it was important we rotated for last Saturday’s FA Cup game, while still showing our respect to the competition by fielding a number of experienced players.

West Brom are a side that put you under pressure with the way they play, however, we got stronger as the game went on and looked like the team that would ultimately go on and win the tie. We needed extra time, of course, but it was a nice feeling to be in the hat for the fourth round and now we look forward to a trip to Tottenham early next month.

Tonight we welcome Patrick Vieira and his coaching staff to the Amex. Patrick was a player I greatly admired in my playing days and was, without question, one of the greatest midfielders of his generation. Given his leadership qualities, it hasn’t surprised me to see him move into management and it’s fair to say he’s made a big impression since he arrival at Selhurst Park last summer.

We endured a tough game there earlier in the season and I’m expecting the same this evening. We know what the fixture means to our supporters so hopefully we can maintain the momentum built up over recent weeks and keep our good run going.
