Graham Potter felt Albion deserved their place in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup despite being taken to extra time by West Brom.

Albion came from behind to win 2-1 at the Hawthorns but needed Neal Maupay’s eighth goal of the season in extra time to progress after Jakub Moder came off the bench to equalise in the 81st minute. West Brom played with ten men after 68 minutes when Cedric Kipre was sent off.

Potter said, “As I expected it was a tough game for us, but we’re delighted to go through and I thought we deserved to win. We had some good chances in the first half and they scored from their only chance but we came back well.

Enock Mwepu was substituted early on in the first half.

“West Brom are hard to play against and put you under pressure with the way they play but I thought we dealt with that well, and we got stronger the longer the game wore on. Their keeper made some good saves and in the end the quality shone through.

“Of course it would be nice to have a cup run but all we could do was focus on today’s game and I thought we were the better side. It’s nice to keep the good run going and reward the fans who travelled, who were fantastic once again in the way they got behind us.”

It was the second time Maupay has scored in the 98th minute this season. He netted in the eighth minute of stoppage time in last month's 1-1 draw against Southampton.
