Ryan Longman scored his first Championship goal of his career last season - a winner in a 2-1 victory over Millwall.

Ryan Longman is delighted with his impact with Hull City in recent weeks after a difficult start to his loan spell.

Since recovering from Covid-19 and then a groin injury, the 21-year-old has two assists and a first Championship goal to his name in his last three appearances.

“It’s been a difficult start at Hull for me personally – in pre-season I thought I was in a good place, I got a couple of games under my belt and played well.

“But then I got Covid-19 and picked up a groin problem on my debut against QPR. It took me a couple of months to get back to where I was.

The forward spent last season on loan with AFC Wimbledon, scoring eight times in 44 league appearances.

“I’ve had a good run of performances recently and I thought my first goal against was going to come soon. I am very happy that it did!”

Just four games ago, Grant McCann’s men found themselves three points adrift of safety, but after Longman’s winner against Millwall the Tigers are now five points clear of the bottom three thanks to a run of four consecutive victories.

They now face Reading on Saturday looking to make it five.

“Everyone is buzzing the camp at the moment, especially after taking the full nine points from a three-game week. We’ve been putting in good performances, we’re not getting battered.

I have just kept my head down and got my opportunity because someone turned up on the day of the game against Birmingham City with a tummy ache.

“I got Man of the Match and an assist, but it shouldn’t have been as the ball went out of play! The referee didn’t see it. I followed that up with an assist against Cardiff last week.”

Now Longman has a goal to his name, he’s desperate to get that buzz of scoring in front of supporters again.

With four wins on the bounce, Hull City will be aiming to make it five against Reading this weekend.

“Last season at Wimbledon we played in front of a crowd once and that was away, so I didn’t realise until this season how much of an impact the supporters can have on a player and a team. It’s definitely another learning experience and I buzz off the crowd. It brings the game to life.

“It was my favourite professional goal – it was great to hear the roar, I can’t explain the feeling, I want to get more.”

And if he had to give his loan spell a score out of ten so far?

“Considering how the last week went I would give it a ten out of ten! Taking everything into consideration the little injury and setbacks I’ve had it’s difficult to properly score it, but it’s definitely been interesting so far.”
