Samy Chouchane scored twice against Reading on Saturday.

Albion climbed to within three points of top spot in Premier League South on Saturday with a 3-1 home win over Reading.

Zak Emmerson got Albion off to the perfect start when he put his team in front after five minutes, before Samy Chouchane made it two from the penalty spot.

An excellent first-half display was capped off by another strike from Chouchane, but Reading responded early in the second 45 through David Nyarko to make things interesting.

Albion steadied themselves though and can count themselves unlucky not to add to their tally.

Zak Emmerson took his tally in Premier League South up to seven with his goal on Saturday.

Professional development phase coach James Baxter said, “We’re pleased with the performance, especially in the first half. We created numerous chances by working the ball well out into wide positions. Our patterns of play to get into the box were superb and we deserved to be 3-0 up at the break.

“We knew Reading would respond in the second half and they did. We were a little bit naïve and got caught trying to play out from the back which allowed them back into the game. But from then on though it was a really professional performance and it could have been more than 3-1 in the end.

“It’s still early days in the season and the main thing we focus on is the players’ development, so they can progress through the system here and hopefully into the first team. The points in the league table give a good indication of how well we’re playing and being three off the top means we’re in a good place.”
