Ben White has been named in England's preliminary squad ahead of Euro 2020.

Defender Ben White has been named in England's provisional squad for this summer’s Euros.

The 23-year-old has been rewarded for his outstanding form this season, playing in 36 of Albion’s 38 games in his first season in the Premier League.

England head coach Gareth Southgate today named 33 players in his squad, which will be trimmed down to a maximum of 26 by 1 June.

The following day England play the first of two friendlies at the Riverside, Middlesbrough against Austria, before facing Romania four days later.

Southgate was at the Amex earlier this month to watch White in action against West Ham.

White joined Albion's academy in 2014 at the age of 16. He developed during loan spells at Newport County, Peterborough United and Leeds United, whom he helped win the Championship title before returning to the club at the start of this season.

His versatility is one of his many attributes. Head coach Graham Potter has played him as a conventional right-back, as part of a three-man central defence and as a defensive midfielder this season.

White will link up with the England squad this weekend ahead of next week’s friendlies.

Three of his Albion teammates – goalkeeper Rob Sanchez (Spain), defender Joel Veltman (Holland) and midfielder Leo Trossard (Belgium) have been named in their respective country's squad for the tournament, which kicks off on 12 June.

White is the first Albion player to be called into the senior England squad since fellow defender Lewis Dunk played in a friendly against United States in November 2018.
