Graham Potter was happy with his side's overall performance against the Hammers.

Graham Potter was happy with Albion's performance despite conceding a late equaliser against West Ham at the Amex.

Danny Welbeck scored his sixth goal of the season and 50th in the Premier League to put the home side ahead in the 84th minute, but the Hammers made it 1-1 four minutes later through substitute Said Benrahma.

“I'm disappointed because we scored late and then they equalised but overall I can't complain too much about the draw,” said Potter. “The boys gave everything against a tough opponent.

I thought they were more dangerous in the first half and we had too long out of possession and too long defending.

“But we have got better in the second half. The players responded against a team having a good season and we were perhaps the better side, I was happy with the overall performance.

“The boys played with intent and gave everything. You look at West Ham and they have invested a lot over a few transfer windows and have had a great season, and David Moyes deserves a lot of credit to get them challenging for a European place.”

Albion have now drawn 14 games this season and turning more of them into wins is part of the step they hope to take next season, which will be their fifth in succession in the Premier League.

“How do we make the next steps? It's a simple question to ask and I don't think we are not far away, but we are aware of what we still need to do,” added Potter.

“There's a lot to be excited about. We have given a lot of young players a chance and they will get better and better. We're optimistic but we know there is still work to be done.”
