Albion's record winning run in the WSL came to an end against Everton.
  • Albion 0, Everton 5

Albion's superb vein of form in the WSL was brought to an abrupt end by a dominant Everton side at the People's Pension Stadium on Sunday.

A quickfire Toffees double midway through the first half saw the visitors take control, before a third early on in the second half was followed with a fourth on the hour. Hayley Raso fired in a fifth late on to round off her hat-trick and the scoring for the day.

It ended a run of four straight wins for Albion – a WSL record for the club.

Hope Powell made one change from the 2-0 win at Aston Villa 11 days ago with Emily Simpkins coming in for Nora Heroum.

Geum-Min Lee had the first shot on goal after four minutes as her misplaced pass was cleared back to her, the South Korea international opted to go for goal on the half volley from range, but Tinja Korpela was able to gather without any real fuss.

Izzy Christiansen opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

That would prove to be Albion's only real moment of note in the first half, as after 24 minutes the visitors took the lead. Raso was bundled over by Maya Le Tissier just inside the Albion box and referee Christiana Hattersley was left with little choice but to point to the spot.

Izzy Christiansen stepped up and despite Megan Walsh diving the right way, the Everton midfielder expertly found the bottom left corner from 12 yards.

Albion barely had their chance to get their breath back before the Toffees doubled their lead. Raso went on a mazy run into the box, evading two challenges before calmly slotting past Walsh to make it two in as many minutes for Willie Kirk's team.

Hayley Raso fired in her first of the afternoon - with the Toffees forward finishing the day with a hat-trick.

Jill Scott went close to nodding in a third, but her effort from Christiansen's corner drifted just wide of the bottom right corner.

Things didn't get much better after the restart as the Toffees made it 3-0 in the 48th minute. Le Tissier's sliced clearance inside her own box was crossed in by Claire Emslie and Raso was there to nod in on the line.

Ellie Brazil looked to pull one back quickly, but her low drive from the edge of the box was deflected wide by Poppy Pattinson’s outstretched leg.

The Toffees added a fourth in the 64th minute when Christiansen's ball into the box wasn't dealt with and Simone Magill was able to poke home.

Again Albion went in search of a quick response and Aileen Whelan nearly found it as she fired an effort into the ground from eight yards out, but Korpela saw it all the way and tipped it over for a corner.

Substitute Nico Sorensen's header with 15 to play went narrowly over, before Megan Connolly's decent effort from the edge of the box flew straight into the arms of Korpela.

Raso would go onto completed her hat-trick though in the 79th minute when she drilled home from ten yards.

Albion's disappointing afternoon was rounded off by Whelan as she crashed an effort again the crossbar with five to play.

Powell and her team's attention will turn quickly to the visit of Manchester United next Sunday.
