Albion secured back-to-back WSL victories for the first time with wins over Chelsea and West Ham.

Hope Powell has praised the way her side responded to recent disappointment with wins over Chelsea and West Ham.

The 1-0 victory over the Hammers on Wednesday meant Albion won successive WSL matches for the first time.

“It feels good to take six points from two tough matches,” Powell said. “Certainly after the defeat to Bristol City, the girls responded and the win over Chelsea was massive for us.

“I am absolutely delighted we could come out tonight and do it again against a good West Ham team.

Aileen Whelan gave Albion a first half lead.

“Everybody has played a part in the last two games – the players and staff. It takes a lot of pressure off us and puts in a much different position to where we were a week ago.

“We have still got a long way to go though, and we have to maintain our approach – we don't want to stop there, we want three wins out of three and so on.”

“The win against Chelsea was massive, it was very unexpected. We had to enjoy the moment on the Sunday, but very quickly the mindset had to move to this game and the girls did that well.

“We can't get complacent, we have to keep working hard. The international break has come at a good time for us as we have quite a few players coming back from injury so we should be stronger when we play again in three weeks.”
