U23 Preview: Albion Target Second Spot In Chelsea Closer

By Kieran Cleeves • 03 May 2019

Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-23s will look to secure second position in the Premier League 2 Division 1 when they welcome Chelsea to the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre this evening, kick-off 7pm.

The Seagulls missed out on winning the league title after their narrow defeat to Everton at Goodison Park last time out, but victory for Simon Rusk’s team tonight will see them leapfrog Arsenal into second spot.

Albion are guaranteed to finish in at least third position after the rest of their PL2 opponents completed their fixtures last month, while victory for the Blues could see them climb three places to finish the season in fifth.

Rusk’s side secured an impressive 3-2 victory when the teams met back in October, as Viktor Gyokeres’s penalty and a brace from Aaron Connolly put Albion 3-0 ahead before Chelsea’s late fightback.

The visitors travel south after consecutive PL defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal, with their last victory coming against Manchester City at the beginning of March.

Albion supporters can follow live text updates on the Match Centre this evening, with a match report and reaction to follow after the full-time whistle.
