Brighton & Hove Albion forward Percy Tau has been named the Proximus League Player of the Year after a campaign of impressive performances for Belgian second-tier club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
The 24-year-old took home the trophy on Monday evening after receiving 228 votes, ahead of KV Mechelen's Nikola Storm (89 votes) and Union team-mate Faiz Selemani (84 votes).
Tau has scored 11 goals and provided 13 assists in 34 appearances during his maiden season in Europe, helping the Belgian outfit to a third-placed finish and into the play-offs for a Europa League spot.
The South African played a key role in helping Union reach the semi-finals of the Beker van Belgie (Belgian Cup), having involvement in six of their 12 goals, as they beat top-tier opponents Anderlecht and Genk en route.
Tau’s latest award follows on from last season’s successful campaign for Mamelodi Sundowns, where he picked up the Absa Premiership Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season accolades.
The striker has also fired four goals in six matches for South Africa since the beginning of the season, helping his nation to an unbeaten start in their African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
