Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Davy Propper has stressed the importance of taking points from the team’s upcoming hat-trick of Premier League fixtures, starting with Huddersfield Town’s visit to the Amex Stadium this afternoon.
The Seagulls find themselves just two points above the bottom three ahead of today’s match, and after slipping closer to the relegation zone over recent months, Propper accepted the need to return to winning ways.
“When we were there [11 points clear] we were looking up, but that’s in the past now. We have to know where we are and what we have to do to make sure we don’t drop anymore.
“We didn’t look at the table too much, we just made sure we were ready for each one of our games. It’s more important to look forward to the next game and make sure we win.
“It’s a bad run but we’re still very confident when we play at home. We’re not happy about it but we have the feeling that we can take something from every game.
“The last three games are very difficult, so the next three are very important. The matches are against opponents who are in a similar position — it’s massive if we can win them.”
Pascal Gross will be missing from midfield after being ruled out with a hamstring injury, and Propper weighed up the dynamic between Albion’s midfielders and the increased freedom he’s had to get forward more.
“We can get forward a little more — in the beginning it was only really Pascal that was really close to the goal, but now I can sneak in sometimes.
“I like to play there and we’ve created lots of chances in recent games, but it’s important that we score more often from them.
“There needs to be a balance — I know Pascal is the most attacking midfielder that we have, but we have to make sure we always keep some people behind with the defence.
“Since we’ve played 4-3-3, we’ve been creating a lot more chances. They haven’t been going in at the moment, but I’m confident that they will.”
