Women Preview: Chelsea V Albion

By Jake Ketley • 30 September 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion take on Chelsea for the second time this season, as they meet in the FA Women’s Super League at Kingsmeadow this afternoon.

Each team head into this fixture having played out the same score line in each of their first three league matches respectively, with Chelsea playing out three 0-0 draws against Manchester City, Bristol City and Everton, whilst Albion have lost their three league matches 1-0, most recently against Liverpool.

The match against the Reds brought with it another frustrating defeat for Hope Powell and her team, as Liverpool substitute Rinsola Babajide struck with just five minutes of the match remaining to leave Albion without a win.

Despite being goalless in the league, Chelsea have found their goalscoring touch in UEFA Women’s Champions League action this season, recently completing an 11-0 aggregate victory over Bosinian outfit SFK 2000 Sarajevo on Wednesday.

Powell’s side will be able to take confidence into the match from when the teams played each other in the opening Continental Tyres Cup group stage match of the season. Despite losing out 3-1, Albion gave a good account of themselves against the current league and SSE Women’s FA Cup champions, with Aileen Whelan getting her name on the scoresheet for the Seagulls.

Albion supporters can follow the action from the game on the club’s official Twitter feed, with a report being uploaded after the full-time whistle.
