Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-18s were beaten 2-1 by Fulham at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre.

Goals from Fabio Carvalho and Terry Ablade gave the Cottagers all three points, cancelling out Danny Cashman’s opener.

The visitors had the first chance of the game when Carvalho tested Piotr Zalewski in the Albion goal after being picked out by Sylvester Jasper.

But the Seagulls struck first through Cashman, who poked the ball past George Wickens from Ryan Longman’s cross in the sixth minute.

Albion were dealt a blow when Piotr Zalewski was withdrawn from the match due to an injury, after keeping out Oliver O’Neil’s effort.

Substitute keeper Finn Talley was involved in the thick of the action straight away, and he had to be alert to keep out a snapshot from Ben Davies.

But parity was restored to the scoreline with 54 minutes played, as Carvalho ended a free-flowing Fulham move and saw his shot clip in off the post.

Ablade then gave Fulham a decisive second goal ten minutes later, after he curled a shot in off the bar and into the top corner.

Despite the Cottagers’ pressure throughout the second half, Longman could have earned Albion a share of the spoils, only to see his resulting effort hit the outside of the post.

There was another injury blow for Albion when Jack Spong was forced off on a stretcher following Zico Asare’s late challenge, as Fulham claimed the three points.

ALBION: Zalewski (Talley 15); Shihab, Weaire, Roberts, Tanimowo; Longman, Tsoungui, Spong (Wilson 65), Vukoje; Leonard, Cashman (Tolaj 86).
