U23 Preview: Another Trip To Swansea

By Kieran Cleeves • 26 November 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-23s return to Premier League 2 Division 1 action this evening, when they take on Swansea City at the Landore Training Ground, kick-off 7pm.

Simon Rusk’s team have visited Swansea’s training ground three times over the past two seasons — twice in the Premier League Cup and once in league competition.

Albion have ran the Swans close on all three occasions, but two 1-0 defeats came during the 2016/17 campaign, before last season’s penalty shootout loss after drawing 1-1 in normal time.

The Seagulls occupy fifth position in the league table ahead of tonight’s top-flight match, while the Welsh club sit one place off bottom spot, having taken seven points from their opening ten matches.

Rusk’s side recently sealed an impressive 3-2 victory over MK Dons in the Checkatrade Trophy  with top goalscorer Aaron Connolly firing a hat-trick — before edging past Lewes in the Sussex Senior Cup.

Swansea were also victorious in the Checkatrade Trophy — a 1-0 victory over Charlton Athletic at The Valley secured top spot in their group to qualify for the knockout stages.

Victory for the Seagulls this evening will move them above Manchester City and Chelsea into third position, as Rusk’s young side reach the halfway stage of their 2018/19 league campaign.

Albion supporters can follow live text updates on Twitter or a live text blog on the Match Centre this evening, with a report and reaction published online shortly after the full-time whistle.
