Duffy Named Fai Player Of The Year

By James Hilsum • 19 March 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy was named Senior International Player of the Year at the FAI International Awards last night.

Duffy beat off competition from James McClean and Darren Randolph to claim the top prize, after a string of impressive performances for the Republic of Ireland.

The 26-year-old featured nine times for his country during 2017, scoring his first international goal against Georgia away from home, before netting against Denmark in a 5-1 World Cup play-off second leg defeat at the Aviva Stadium in November.

The Albion centre-back is currently away on international duty after being included in the squad to face Turkey in a friendly on Friday.

Meanwhile, Albion under-23 duo Aaron Connolly and Jayson Molumby were also nominated in the under-19 and under-17 categories, but lost out to Declan Rice and Aaron Bolger respectively.
