By James Hilsum • 16 July 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion under-23 midfielder Max Sanders has been called up by England for this month’s UEFA European Under-19 Championship.

Sanders has flown off to Finland for the eight-team tournament with the rest of Paul Simpson’s squad, ahead of the Three Lions’ first match against Turkey on Tuesday.

England then face Ukraine on Friday before playing their final group stage fixture against France next Monday.

The tournament also serves as qualification for the 2019 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Poland, and the four semi-finalists will secure their places in next year’s competition.

The top two teams in each group will qualify for the semi-finals, with the final scheduled to take place on Saturday 29th July.

The two third-placed teams in each group will also contest a play-off match, and the winners will also secure a place in next year’s FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
