Murray: We're On Course

By James Hilsum • 01 January 2018

Brighton & Hove Albion striker Glenn Murray believes the side are currently on course to achieve their target of Premier League survival, following Saturday’s goalless draw away at Newcastle United.

The result leaves Albion with 22 points from 21 games, and the Seagulls frontman is confident that maintaining the present points to game ratio will be enough to stay in the division come May.

He said, “We always go into games looking to win, but when you look back and assess it, it’s good to come away with a point.

“If we’ve got more points than games, then we’re on target. If we have between 38 and 40 points at the end of the season, then that should be enough to achieve what we wanted.

“At the minute we’re on course and we’ve just got to keep our form up.”

Murray commented on the differences of playing in the Championship as opposed to the Premier League, as well as the prospect of playing two games in three days, when Bournemouth visit the Amex on Monday after beating Everton.

“In the Championship you’re on the front foot and you can take games to the opposition. In the Premier League, it’s a lot more tactical where like on Saturday, both teams are a bit cautious and don’t want to lose.

“Against the big boys, you’re less likely to get any points, whereas in the Championship, Newcastle and Brighton would both be near the top of the league. It’s a very different task.

“It’s all right [lots of games in a short period]. If any clubs are used to it, it’s probably ourselves and Newcastle after last year. Everyone is in the same boat, so we’ve just got to get on with it.

“They got three points [Bournemouth]. I don’t know what happened in that game, whether they played well or not. We’ve just got to prepare as we would for Bournemouth and believe that we can get three points.”
