Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-23s travel to Hastings United in the Sussex Senior Cup this evening, as they look to progress to the fourth round of the competition at The Pilot Field, kick-off 7.45pm.

The Seagulls were in Premier League 2 Division 1 action against Leicester City last night, but Simon Rusk’s team were narrowly beaten 1-0 after Josh Knight’s first-half header for the Foxes.

But attention turns to retaining the Sussex Senior Cup tonight — a competition the Seagulls have won in both of the last two seasons —and Rusk is expected to use a mixture of players from the under-23s and under-18s.

Albion made it to the third round thanks to Josh Kerr’s 90th-minute goal against Lewes at the Dripping Pan, which secured a 1-0 victory after a tight match against Darren Freeman’s team.

The Arrows have also played just one match in the competition so far, and Chris Agutter’s side managed to seal a 4-2 win against Saltdean United to set up tonight’s game against the Seagulls.

Hastings are five games without victory, losing three games consecutively in the Bostik League South East Division, but the Arrows still find themselves in second position after 15 matches.

Albion missed out on the opportunity of climbing the Premier League 2 Division 1 table, but Rusk’s young side travel to West Ham United on Saturday looking to finish December with a positive result.

Supporters can follow a live text blog from tonight’s game on the Match Centre, with a report and gallery to be uploaded to the website after the full-time whistle.
