Ostigard Aiming To Fulfil Childhood Dream

By James Hilsum • 08 August 2018

New Brighton & Hove Albion defender Leo Skiri Ostigard is determined to fulfil his childhood dream of playing in the Premier League, after completing a move from Molde FK.

The Norwegian signed a three-year deal with Albion, and is now eager to show his attributes for the under-23s and force his way into Chris Hughton’s plans.

He said, “It’s a dream come true for me. Most players in Norway dream of moving to a Premier League club. I am very grateful to be here.

“It’s always a new experience when you go to a different country. There is a big passion for football in England and I am looking forward to playing here. It’s the perfect next step for me in my career, and I now want to play in the Premier League.

“I am very excited to show the manager my qualities, but I have to prove myself and work very hard to get up to the first team. Hopefully I can do that and show that I’m good enough.”

Ostigard will link up with a familiar face in Max Sanders, after the duo faced each other in this year’s Under-19 European Championships, which saw Norway beat England 3-0 to secure a place in next year’s FIFA Under-20 World Cup Finals.

“It’s been 20 years since Norway qualified for a World Cup [senior team in 1998]. It’s very good for us and we have a good team and coach.

“It was a fantastic experience, we beat England in our last game, which was good for me and the team. We saw what the level was.

“He’s [Sanders] a good player and I’m looking forward to playing with him for the under-23s. I will have a chat with him once we start training together, and it will be good to be part of the same team.”

The 18-year-old leaves a Molde side managed by Premier League legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and revealed how the former Manchester United striker supported his move to the south coast.

“He’s a very good manager and is a legend in Norway; it’s been very good for me to work under him.

“I spoke to him about Brighton and he said it’s a good opportunity for me. I’ve made my decision to move and I’m happy about it.”
