Head coach Hope Powell admitted Albion were punished for problems at both ends of the pitch as they went down 3-1 to Reading in their final WSL game before a three-week break.

Inessa Kaagman equalised from the spot after Jess Fishlock had put the Royals ahead and the Welsh international restored Reading’s lead before substitute Rachel Rowe made it 3-1 in the closing stages.

Powell said, “In tight games you have to score when you're on top and not make mistakes and we gifted them their second goal through over-playing at the back. At this level you have to be smart enough to know when we play under pressure and when not to.

“It was then a fight to get back into the game and I thought we had some good spells in the second half but too often our final ball or execution wasn't quite there for us and they got their third at the end.

“Reading are technically a good side, but we knew that. I thought we created too many of our own errors and they were a bit stronger and their physicality did make a difference.”

Albion now have a break until they travel to bottom of the table Bristol City on January 10th.

“I think the girls could do with a spell away from football, but we go again in January," added Powell.

“It's also the transfer window but January is a difficult window. We don't want to panic buy and players must add value to what we've got but we are always looking to improve.”
