Simon Rusk praised his side’s defensive resilience after they defeated Chelsea in Premier League 2 on Friday.
Tudor Baluta and Danny Cashman grabbed the goals in a 2-0 win, Albion’s first of the season.
What were your thoughts on the 90 minutes?
“It was a tough game in tough conditions, which had a bit of an influence on how we wanted to play the game technically.
“But I am really happy with the resilience and personality we had to display defensively.
“I am really pleased with the clean sheet, it’s a good platform to build on and it’s a good result.
“Three points against Chelsea, we have to be happy with that. Of course, there are things that could have been better.”
Did that early goal impact on the game plan?
“Sometimes an early goal in a game can make you a little bit sloppy at times, and it perhaps affected some of our decision making. But we dug in when we needed to.
“We then got the second goal and it complimented that bit of defensive work we had to do.”
A few of the players had been involved with the first team on Wednesday at Preston, how much of a positive is that?
“It’s good that some of the boys can go and absorb the first-team experience and bring back the elements they would have been exposed to there – the professionalism and the rigorous nature of first-team football.
“You bring that to under-23s football and that can only be a positive.”
Next up is Charlton in the EFL Trophy, another tough test.
“I am looking forward to it. We were very young the other night against AFC Wimbledon and I thought we deserved a little bit more in the Orient game as well.
“But any game we play we want to give the best account of ourselves. Qualification from the group isn’t possible, but we want to go there and do the best we can.”
