Simon Rusk wants the Albion academy to continue producing players that can make the step-up to first-team football.
A number of under-23s players are expected to feature in tonight’s Carabao Cup match against Portsmouth, with Potter willing to give the younger players breaking through the chance to show to him what they can offer.
Rusk said, “It’s been seen over the past 12 months that if the players go into the first-team environment and make a positive impression then they’re going to be under consideration.
“Graham and his staff have made it clear they want to always be aware of what talent there is, then they want to give that player the opportunity to test themselves in the first-team environment.
“It’s brilliant for us and we have to embrace that. We want to keep the production line of players to be considered coming through.”
The under-23s head coach hopes to see his players grasp their opportunity and use it positively going forward.
“It’s a competition the boys out of the academy and the under-23s side have had exposure to and have experienced over the last couple of years – the Aston Villa game last season is a good example of that.
“It’s a great thing for the players to be involved in and hopefully they can get some game time and take advantage of that moving forward.”
