Jayson Molumby’s first international cap for the Republic of Ireland is a really proud moment for Albion’s academy according to Simon Rusk.
The 21-year-old made his senior debut on Sunday in Ireland’s 1-0 UEFA Nations League defeat to Finland.
Rusk said, “I am very proud. Everyone in the academy has played their part and it’s nice to be a part of that team effort.
“It’s great to see the lads go all the way as Jayson has done. We’ve got Ben White back this season and he has taken a similar path to Jayson. It bodes well for the future but we have got to keep the pressure on ourselves to keep producing.”
Rusk said that making his full international debut shows the progress Molumby has made, having overcome a long-term knee injury.
“It was a really special moment for Jayson to get his first cap because it’s not been a straightforward journey for him with his injuries,” added Rusk.
“He is one of many players that have developed and gone into a first-team arena and really held their own. Now it’s about us as coaches saying to the current crop ‘Who’s going to be next? Go and grab that opportunity.’”
