Neal Maupay says setting a new Premier League points tally of 41 points would be a significant achievement for Albion.

A win against Burnley at Turf Moor tomorrow would move the Seagulls above the 40 point mark they recorded in 2018 in their first season in the top flight.

He said, “It would be a big achievement of course, and really good for us to make a bit of history. To be able to secure 15th place in the league is something we’d be really proud of as well.

“This year there were lots of changes with the manager and style as well as a long break, so it has been a special and tough year.

“If we can reach 41 points then that would be great. I know we’re safe, but we’ll go out there on Sunday to try and win the game and do our best.”

Maupay also hailed fellow striker Glenn Murray, who achieved double figure goals in Albion’s previous two Premier League campaigns.

“Glenn has been really good with me I have to say – he wants to play and he’s right to do so, but he’s always been behind me, pushing me and helping me improve,” added Maupay.

“For me that was huge because I know sometimes he could be frustrated on the bench, but he was always supporting me. It makes both of us improve. I couldn’t have asked for a better teammate.”

Albion have secured safety with a game to go, a scenario which looked tough to achieve when they resumed the season just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Wins over Arsenal and Norwich as well as draws against Leicester City, Newcastle United and Southampton got the job done, leaving the final day agonising to other clubs.

“Since lockdown our form has been really good. We did a lot of work at the club to keep us all in good shape and to keep us focused,” said Maupay.

“We worked hard in what was a new scenario for everyone and we did ourselves proud. The mindset throughout from the boys has been really good and that’s why it’s worked out well for us when we restarted. The club can be proud of the work we’ve all done.”
