The Seagulls pushed the top-four chasing side all the way to secure a third successive draw away from home.

The boss hailed the character and application of the team, pointing out that it was his side's first clean sheet since the end of December.

He said, “It was a terrific performance and it was important for us to get a clean sheet because it had been a while since we had one.

“We competed against a good side with a lot of dangerous players, but we restricted them to not too many chances.

“We defended really well as a unit, it was a collective effort and we restricted them to just one shot on target. They can put you into dangerous areas, but the boys stuck to the task as a man and those qualities are important.”

Potter: We're still fighting

After the break Albion created some good openings. Potter praised the way his side grew into the contest and also emphasised the good feeling within the dressing room.

“At the end we had decent chances to win the game and were competitive throughout," he added.

“You have to accept the quality of the team you’re playing against, but we tried to attack and had some good openings.

“It wasn’t to be, but we move forward really positively from today and prepare for another tough game against Arsenal next week.

"We have some big games at home, but they all are and that’s the beauty of the challenge.

“We know our qualities, but we have to do the nasty things well and if we do that we can take on anybody.

"There’s a great spirit still within the camp, we’ve been through a tough time but we’re very much still together and still showing the quality that we need and we’ll keep working with those attributes.”
